I've found that writing for article directories doesn't require the tech knowledge and time commitment that most blogs demand, and the opportunities to reap some solid cash rewards are there without a doubt.

Making cash with online writing isn't nowhere near as tough as it used to be …

Right now I've got about 100 articles online that average 300-400 words in length each. It takes about 20 minutes to write an article, and one single 300 word articles has earned me well over $300 since I wrote it. The trick is writing about popular topics and covering all bases. Here are some reasons blogging isn't the best idea for most people to make online cash:

1. It can take a blog up to 12 months to build PR and search engine prominence. Hub Pages and other article directories have a high PR as it is and are well recognized at search engines. Most of the articles I write there appear on the first page of Google within hours.
2. Blogs are limited to one subject area. You can write one hub page on sports and the next on religion without detriment.
3. Blogs take hours to set up and maintain. Hub pages take just a few minutes to do the same work.

Hub Pages is a free site, which is what makes the process so simple to start. I joined Hub Pages in 2008 and each month I receive a direct bank deposit from Google for around $200-$300 from the advertising that runs over the articles I write. I also make much more than that from affiliate links … but we'll get to that.

It's a free website that allows people to write articles and make cash from them with minimum time commitment. The truth is that we're in the age where blogging is no longer the most lucrative income source.

How to use Hub Pages

2. Follow the tutorials for new writers
3. Set-up Google AdSense in the profile settings

Hub Pages shares 60-70% of ad-impressions with writers. This is quite high since I've found Hub Pages promotes articles for writers to help them accumulate readership and improve their AdSense earnings with automatic ad-optimization and placement. I have a eCPM of about $9 ($9 per 1000 pageviews) so I'm not complaining about the 20-30% cut.

The First $1000 I Made Online

Since 2006 I'd been experimenting with article directories but hadn't been able to make more than $20-30 a month until I stumbled upon Hub Pages.

The fact is that with extensive blogging and writing experience I've found that I'm earning the most I ever have with Hub Pages. It's because their SEO process rewards the best written articles with free promotion and ad-sense optimization.

Extensive affiliate links are punished at Hub Pages, but 1 or 2 links are acceptable. This has lead me to earn some impressive affiliate income from articles I've written related to products that I can promote.

Individuals who have limited technical knowledge will love hub pages, as will bloggers who are struggling to succeed in the blog-o-sphere. I've made a few friends on the Hub Pages forum who are even earning well over $1000 a month from articles written back in 2008.

I haven't written much for a while since the old articles I've written are still attracting some nice traffic and AdSense earnings. During November 2008 to September 2009 instead I wrote an e-book entitled 'Words Into Dollars' which is a 20,000 word blue-print for new writers that explains how I used Hub Pages to write about topics that have since driven thousands of dollars in AdSense and Clickbank income from the articles I've written there.
